Best time to visit Phuket

November to April is the dry season, with calm seas and the best conditions for boat trips and beaches.

May to October is the southwest monsoon: more rain, rougher seas on the west coast and some boat trips cancelled, but fewer visitors.

Getting to Phuket

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island, with flights from Bangkok and connections via Asian and Middle Eastern hubs. Patong and the southern beaches are about an hour away by car.

Getting around

Taxis and ride-hailing

Grab and Bolt work on the island and are usually easier than negotiating with taxis or tuk-tuks.

Scooters and cars

Renting is common but roads are busy; you need a valid licence (including an International Driving Permit) and a helmet.

Boats

Ferries and speedboats leave from Rassada Pier and other piers for Phi Phi, Krabi and the islands.
